Job Overview

Magnolia Cooperative Preschool is now hiring a teacher for our 2024-2025 Toddlers preschool class (ages 12 months-2 years old). We are looking for a caring, creative, and enthusiastic teacher who believes young children make sense of the world through creative and cooperative play.  Along with creating a classroom environment where unstructured, freely-chosen play thrives, you will work together with a Parent Educator from North Seattle College to further the early-childhood education of parents as assistant teachers.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach approximately 16 students and collaborate with parents and your Parent Educator to create a classroom environment that engages children
  • Lead age-appropriate “circle time” activities
  • Create engaging, age-appropriate play stations and activities
  • Model positive interactions for parents, and encourage their participation as assistant teachers
  • Run a monthly class meeting with the help of your North Seattle College Parent Educator
  • Collaborate with other teachers to provide children with a developmentally-appropriate program that follows NAEYC standards and meets children’s emotional and physical demands
  • Maintain a clean, inclusive classroom environment

Schedule

  • Teach two morning classes per week (Thursday and Friday, 9:30-11:30), plus setup, breakdown, and planning time;
  • Attend three evening meetings per month: a two-hour board meeting and two two-hour parent education meeting, and;
  • Attend one daytime staff meeting per month: two hours

Qualifications 

  • Degree in Early Childhood Education, or equivalent amount of experience working with preschool age children.  Experience in a co-op setting a plus.
  • Ability to develop age-appropriate curriculum and activities for children through play-based learning
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with both children and adults
  • Enthusiasm for, and commitment to, the collaborative nature of a cooperative school
  • Ability and comfort to move frequently between different physical classroom stations (kitchen, play areas, circle time, etc.) and position self to interact with children in these areas
  • First Aid and CPR certifications, or ability to obtain prior to start date

Magnolia Cooperative Preschool works to not only provide a play-based cooperative preschool experience for children, but also educates parents in the principles of early childhood education through parent education meetings and the collaborative assistant teaching model. Parents work alongside teachers in the classroom, creating a community atmosphere for our families. We focus on anti-bias education and social and emotional development of the child through creative and cooperative play.
